Abstract Multiple team membership (MTM) model is becoming increasingly predominant in most organizations. How would MTM influence employee general innovation? This paper focuses on the mechanisms of diversities among teams on general innovation. The empirical study shows that knowledge diversity among teams would promote employee learning, which is positively related with employee general innovation, and the relationship between employee learning and general innovation would be stronger under higher identity conflict. Atmosphere diversity among teams would promote identity conflict, which is negatively related with employee general innovation, and the relationship between identity conflict and general innovation would be weaker under higher employee learning.
