Abstract his research uses case study method to trace the development trajectory of a Chinese private enterprise, which diversifies its activities in multiple industries over the last 20 years. It aims to understand how organizations benefit from a type of supraplanning
‘buju’, identified as “a logical sequence of actions” in regards to building an egocentered social network which is different from strategic planning. The mechanism of ‘buju’ is such that the way of balancing closure networks and loose networks and reproducing guanxi works in the process of the coconstruction of social networks and business opportunities, so as to achieve adaptations to the complex environments.
