Abstract Based on Information Processing Theory (IPT), the paper discusses the issue of fit of information processing capability and information processing requirement for different degree of cooperation. It explains that the formation of Interorganizational information processing capability is not simply the sum of each partner’s capability but the result of fit among each other. Its analysis reveals that if the capabilities of partners are largely different, organizational cooperation may not help in improving the circumstance of a single organization or even induce bigger risk to it due to untimely, improper and inefficient employment of information sharing. The study verifies the hypothesis that the level of performance of interorganizational cooperation depends on the overall level of all partners’ information processing capabilities.
