This cross-national study uses various data sets from international organization surveys to find out relationships between the level of societal informatization and the quality of life. The whole model showed that the nation's degree of societal informatization positively influences the quality of life. All the three societal informatization indicators (DOI: Digital Opportunity Index, e-readiness and IDC Information Society Index) have strong positive correlations with HDI (Human Development Indicators). The coefficients were 0.93, 0.84 and 0.89 respectively. It can be inferred that physical human development was influenced by degree of societal informatization. But the relation between degree of societal informatization and happiness was relatively weaker. The coefficients were 0.46, 0.64 and 0.61 respectively. Similarly, relation between degree of societal informatization and SWB (subjective well-being) was not as strong either. The coefficients were 0.52, 0.62 and 0.57 respectively. The results show that human's happiness and subjective well-being were not built on tangible information technologies entirely. Information technologies are necessary, but not sufficient condition for people's happiness and quality of life. This paper discusses how to employ information technologies effectively to increase the level of human's self-perception of life values.
