Abstract:Based on the accessibility theory, this study quantifies the spatial distribution characteristics of designated medical institutions, and then the effect of different spatial allocation methods is tested on the effectiveness of COVID-19 prevention and control. The empirical results show that after controlling the city's basic characteristics, the extent of mobility, basic medical resources status, and the province-level fixed effect, the allocation method of the population gathering designated hospitals has a significantly negative effect on the spread of the epidemic diffusion. In contrast, the allocation method of the population gathering designated fever clinics has a significant and positive effect. Moreover, the combination of the population gathering designated hospitals and distributed according to space of fever clinics significantly decreased the confirmed cases. Additionally, with the increase in the severity extent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the above effects of designated medical resources allocation on COVID-19 pandemic control can be enhanced.
