Abstract:Chinese carbon dioxide emissions of the direct consumption of fossil fuels are calculated. The dynamic panel threshold model is used to model the nonlinear relation between residential carbon emissions and urbanization. The results suggest that there is a threshold effect among them. To be more specific, first, the impact of the urbanization on residential carbon emissions is positive when income is less than the threshold, then turns to be negative while income is over the threshold. Second, there is a dynamic effect of the residential carbon emissions, and there exists a U-shaped relationship between residential carbon emissions and income. Third, the impacts of urbanization on residential carbon emissions are significantly different across different areas.
