Association between Organizational Commitment and Professional Environment in Care Workers in Nursing Home

Abstract: Objective To explore the association between organizational commitment and professional environment in care workers in nursing home. Methods With convenient sampling, 293 care workers in 22 nursing homes in Hangzhou from January to April 2018 were investigated by using general information questionnaire,Organizational Commitment Questionnaire(OCQ) of Chinese Employees and Gallup Workplace Audit. Results The score of organizational commitment and work environment was 59.62±9.34 and the score of dimension of emotion commitment, norm commitment, ideal commitment, economy commitment and opportunity commitment was 14.25±2.35, 14.01±2.14,11.89±3.10,10.39±2.82 and 9.09±3.01 respectively. The total score of professional environment was 42.65±5.61 and the score of each dimension of team cooperation, support from leaders, basic need and self-realization was 14.85±2.34,12.90±2.51, 7.76±0.98 and 7.14±1.50 respectively.Pearson analysis revealed that organizational commitment had a significant association with professional environment(r=0.541, P=0.003). Conclusion Organizational commitment is in a mediate level and it has close association with professional environment. Multi-dimension management such as recruitment, training and hierarchical management would be conducive to the improvement of professional environment, thus to promote organizational commitment and further stabilize healthcare team.
