A MOOC-based Blended Teaching in Health Assessment

Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of a MOOC-based blended teaching model on Health Assessment among nursing undergraduates. Methods From March to June of 2017, Seventy-four nursing undergraduates in grade 2015 were recruited as the control group to receive the routine teaching of Health Assessment, while from March to June of 2018, 57 nursing undergraduates in grade 2016 were selected as the experimental group to receive the MOOC-based blended teaching. Students' self-efficacy was evaluated by using the Health Assessment Learning Self-efficacy Questionnaire and students' performance in the final theoretical and skill examination, as well as their satisfaction with the teaching were compared. Results The experimental group had higher scores in terms of self-efficacy (P<0.05), and the final theoretical and skill examination scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.01). Students in the experimental group were more satisfied with the teaching(P<0.05). Conclusion The MOOC-based blended teaching can effectively improve the learning self-efficacy of nursing undergraduates, as well as their performance in theoretical and skill examinations and teaching satisfaction, which is worthy to be promoted.
