Effect of Sandwich Method in Pre-practice Nursing Skill Training for Nursing Students

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of sandwich method in pre-practice nursing skill training for nursing students. Methods A total of 123 nursing students from a medical university of Guangzhou were randomly divided into experimental group with sandwich method and control group with case teaching. After the training, the teaching effects were evaluated by clinical thinking ability questionnaire, theoretical and operation skill test and teaching effectiveness questionnaire. Results The scores of theoretical and operation skill test in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (both P<0.05).The scores of each dimension and the total score of the clinical thinking ability questionnaire were higher than those of the control group (all P<0.05) and 83% to 96% of the students in the experimental group thought highly of the sandwich method (all P<0.05). Conclusion The sandwich method can improve the effectiveness of nursing skill training and it is helpful to foster the clinical thinking ability of nursing students.
