Abstract

Based on Optimal Distinctiveness Theory and Resource Orchestration Theory, this study establishes a theoretical model linking platform enterprises-complementor synergy relationship to platform innovation performance, empirically tested with 466 questionnaires from platform firms’ mid-to-senior managers of platform enterprises. Results reveal an inverted U-shaped relationship between platform enterprises-complementor synergy relationship and both innovation performance and resource integration. Resource integration partially mediates the synergy relationship-performance link while positively affecting innovation performance. Organizational agility positively moderates the resource integration-innovation performance relationship, and platform openness strengthens this moderating effect. Furthermore, heterogeneity exists across development stages: the joint moderating effect of platform openness and organizational agility on the resource integration-innovation performance linkage is non-significant for mature-stage platform enterprises.
