Abstract  Based on the Three Characteristics of commercial banks and CAMEL system, we use principal component analysis to build a comprehensive performance indicator for commercial banks. Using the panel data of 14 listed banks between 2007 and 2011, we study the impact of capital structure and ownership structure on the comprehensive performance indicator. The main results show that capital adequacy ratio and equity concentration have significant impact on bank performance and state-owned nature have a positive but insignificant impact on the comprehensive performance.
