Abstract

Value statements of 100 Chinese top 500 enterprises have been analyzed and evaluated through content analysis in this study. Four value types have been figured out in those statements by multidimensional scaling analysis: external incentive value, external constraint value, internal constraint value, and internal incentive value. According to characteristics of each value type, seven value orientations have been concluded by Q stratified cluster method. Additionally, organizational competitiveness of seven orientations has been compared with each other on the basis of status changes in the top 500 list. The research result shows that enterprises with 4th value orientation, which emphasize internal and external constraint values but lack external incentive values, maintains in the top 500 list with higher percentage (85%), and enterprises with 2nd value orientation, which emphasize just internal constraint values but lack external incentive and constraint values, exists in the top 500 list with lower percentage (62%).
