Abstract Based on data of listed manufacturing companies on China’s GEM Board from 2009 to 2018, this study examines the influence of co-founding IUR (industry-university-research) innovation entities on high-tech SMEs’ innovation performance, and the moderating role of social trust, government innovation subsidy as well as the interaction of them. Results show that: co-founding IUR innovation entities with universities or research institutes can improve innovation performances of high-tech SMEs; both social trust and government innovation subsidy can enhance the positive relationship between co-founding IUR innovation entities and firm innovation performance; the interaction of social trust and government innovation subsidy can positively moderate the relationship between co-founding IUR innovation entities and firm innovation performance.
