Abstract Based on the perspective of optimal distinctiveness, this study explores how the intrapreneurial units matches its autonomy strategy and conformity strategy with the context of relational embeddedness and strategic logic, so as to form a variety of configurations leading to high performance of intrapreneurial units. Using the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to perform a configurational analysis on the questionnaire data from 25 intrapreneurial units, this study shows that: ①Exploitative units should adopt the conformity configuration when they are embedded in their parent company, but their combination with autonomous strategies when de-embedding can lead to an out-of-rein configuration that lacks legitimacy;②Exploratory units should take care of both autonomy and conformity strategy with relational embedding, and using the autonomy configuration with relational disembedding;③Ambidextrous units should adopt the autonomy configuration when they are embedded, but should not adopt the conformity strategy blindly when they are disembedded.
