Abstract Based on social cognitive theory, we intend to understand how and when entrepreneurial passion is related to effectuation．Specifically, we investigate the mediating role of self-regulatory mode and the moderating role of environmental uncertainty, and reveal the mechanism and boundary conditions of entrepreneurial passion on effectuation. The results reveal that ①entrepreneurial passion has a positive effect on effectuation; ②entrepreneurial passion promotes effectuation through the mediating path of locomotion, and inhibits effectuation through the mediating path of assessment; ②environmental uncertainty moderates the mediating effect of locomotion between entrepreneurial passion and effectuation. However, environmental uncertainty has no significant moderating effect on the mediating role of locomotion between entrepreneurial passion and effectuation.
