Effects of Usability Problems on User’s Emotions: A Case Study

Abstract  To investigate the effects and causes of usability problems in term of types on user emotions, this study takes the development and application of office systems in a military engineering university as a case. The results show that usability problems with different types of elicit user suggest negative emotions in different categories following with diverse learning effects. Negative emotions are induced on the basis of user’s appraisal of performance. With the different types of usability problems, the differences between improvements of performance brought by using experiences would lead to different learning effects. In usability engineering of information systems, identification of types of usability problems is the key step, and would support usability-related decisions.
