Abstract National high-tech zones have been playing an important role in the independent innovation and the development of high-tech industry in the last two decades. It demonstrates that differential characteristics in terms of development level were observed in every single year, amongst high-tech zones, owing to consecutive internal and external improvement. It was indicated that the high-tech zones established in 1990s had specific characteristics in economic scale and export-oriented degree, and technological innovation level, by using the global principal component analytical method attached to the time-series tables. Furthermore, due to the impact of the international financial crisis taking place from 2008 to 2012, although dynamic trajectory was still on an upward trend, the economic growth rate had slowed down, and the role of technological innovation-driven economy of the zone was limited as well.
