Abstract Taking a bibliometric approach, this paper reviewed the information gathered from 197 scholarly articles on the topic of temporary employment in which published in CSSCI journals from the year of 1996. From the categories of research perspective, research content and research level, this paper reached conclusions that: first, the implementation of New Labor Contract Law in 2008 has stimulated the research of temporary employment in China; second, most of studies were based on the perspectives of law and management; third, questionnaire survey and theoretical modeling were the prevailing research methods used by those studies. Most of studies were focusing on the industries of manufacturing and services. Finally, research implications for future study on temporary employment in China were discussed.
