Abstract Based on the institutional theory and organizational capabilities theory, this study empirically investigates the capability factors and institutional factors influencing the selection of international entrepreneurial modes, by conducting the questionnaire survey of 172 international new ventures in China. With hierarchical regression analysis, the results show that international new ventures with strong entrepreneurial capabilities prefer to select advanced international entrepreneurial modes, and this preference is more evident under friendly institutional environments in host countries.
