Current Status of Body Image and Sexual Adjustment in Breast Cancer Patients and Its Influence Factors

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of body image and sexual adjustment in breast cancer patients after surgery, and to analyze the influence factors. Methods A convenient sampling method was adopted to select 200 postoperative breast cancer patients from a tertiary grade A hospital in Weifang from November 2019 to August 2020 and patients were surveyed by using general information questionnaire and Chinese Version of Sexual Adjustment and Body Image Scale, Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire and Illness Perception Questionnaire. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of body image and sexual adjustment in postoperative patients with breast cancer. Results The score of body image and sexual adjustment after breast cancer surgery was 38.56±6.04. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that per capita monthly household income(RMB), surgical approach, yield coping style and cognition entered the regression equation (P<0.05), accounting for 36.5% of the total variation. Conclusion Body image and sexual adjustment of breast cancer patients are at a moderate level, and they are closely related to coping style and disease perception. Nursing staff should encourage patients to adopt positive coping style and understand the prognosis of the disease, so as to improve body image and sexual adjustment of patients after breast cancer surgery, and improve their quality of life.
