Translation of Person-centered Critical Care Nursing Scale and Its Reliability and Validity

Abstract: Objective To translate the Korean version of “Person-centered Critical Care Nursing Scale” (PCCN) to form a Chinese version, and analyze its reliability and validity. Methods According to the translation procedure of the scale, after obtaining the authorization of the author, the Korean version of PCCN was translated into Chinese, then cross-cultural adaptation was conducted. A total of 375 ICU nurses in Tianjin were investigated to complete the reliability and validity test. Results The Chinese version of PCCN has good surface and content validity. Four common factors were extracted, including empathy, personality, respect, and comfort. Item load of each factor was ≥0.4 and the cumulative rate of total variability 70.113%. The structural validity was good; the overall Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.897, and the Cronbach's α coefficient of each dimension 0.816, 0.766, 0.771 and 0.871 respectively. The confirmatory factor model had a good fit. Conclusion With good reliability and validity, the Chinese version of PCCN is suitable for the assessment of humanistic care capability of Chinese nurses such as empathy, personality, respect and comfort.
