Quality Control Circle to Reduce Incidence of False Alarm of Multi-parameter Monitors in General Wards

Abstract: Objective To reduce the incidence of false alarm in multi-parameter monitors in general wards, and standardize the alarm management of the monitors. Methods The reasons for the high rate of false alarm of 50 inpatients with multi-parameter monitors in the ordinary wards were analyzed, then the improvement measures were proposed and the operation of the monitor was standardized. The intervention effect was assessed 2 months later. Results The incidence of false alarm in multi-parameter monitor was reduced from 92% to 31%. The target reaching rate was 111% and the improvement rate 66%. Patient's knowledge mastery rate of the monitor increased from 82% to 98%; and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). No warning-related adverse events occurred. The quality control circle activity improved nurses' consciousness and ability to participate in nursing quality management. Conclusion The activity of quality control circle can effectively reduce the incidence of false alarm in multi-parameter monitors in common wards, improve patients' knowledge mastery rate of the monitor. It is worth to be popularized in clinical practice.
