Abstract Family business involves two systems as family system and business system. The maintainable logic of the former system is affection and efficiency is the operational logic of the latter. Complementation and confliction coexist between the two systems. The success probability of family business is decided by the balance between family logic and business logic. The success of Sfirm indicates that family ethics with filial piety and fraternal duty as its core in the context of Chinese culture affect the family status of entrepreneurs and the collection of social capital of their family, and further influences the culture and the social responsibility of the family business. It argues that ethical culture can be in favor of improving the efficiency of business operation as long as there is the restriction of institutional rationality. Therefore, the basic path for the success of family business lies in the effective counterbalance and resonance among family ethics, business ethics and institutional rationality.
