Abstract Both human resource and organizational innovation have been viewed as major sources of competitive advantage. Each of them has been studied well, respectively; however, less attention has been paid to exploring the relationship between them. This paper first analyzes the present situation of the study of organizational innovation, and then discusses what role human resource management could play on organizational innovation from the perspectives of human capital, organizational learning and organizational climate. Second, it presents a theoretical model of human resource management practices facilitating organizational innovation. Finally, the managerial implications are discussed.
