The empirical evidences of Chinese Internet development and diffusion in recent years were provided. The findings show that there was a clear digital divide among the nation's three economic regions, and while the growth rate for new Internet users was accelerating and the infrastructure of network was improving, the digital divide becomed narrower. Based on a set of regression analysis, that income and education play a critical role in shaping the divide. The government should make some related policies to promote a wider diffusion of internet in Chinese poorer regions.
