Abstract By using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)to compute weights, the competitiveness models of the state-owned commercial banks were developed and used to evaluate the competitiveness of four state-owned commercial banks. The evaluation results were as follows: Bank of China possessed the strongest competitiveness,China Construction Bank took the second place,Industrial and Commercial Bank of China was relatively bad and Agricultural Bank of China was the worst. The characteristics of the models were concluded as follows: Firstly,in the process of the indexes selection,it was considered synthetically the dominant indexes such as total profit, capitalization, capital profit margin and assets profit margin and the potential indexes such as the ratio of loan and deposit, the numbers of embranchment organizations, the rate of deposit growth and loan growth. The distorted evaluation resulting from the ignorant of the potential index was avoided.Secondly, indexes were classified by quantity and quality. The confused indexes and poor results were solved, being caused by the mixture of the above two indexes in the previous evaluation.By standardizing all index data, the none-dimension result applying to computation and evaluation could be obtained. It solved the cross-impact problem of the positive and negative indexes in an evaluation system.
