Abstract Commercialized investment in R&D projects is one of the most important domains to duopoly enterprises in their competition. The impacts of the asymmetric operating cost of two enterprises on both selection investment times were analyzed under duopoly condition. Ii is concluded that: (1) when both costs of commercialized investment are the same, the degree of asymmetry of operating cost effect the their investment time selection greatly; (2) When the asymmetry of operating cost is low, the firm with more operating costs is motivated to preempt, but the firm with less operating cost is much easier to win the preemption competition and (3)When the asymmetry of operating cost is high, the inferior in high operating cost would be a great obstacle for the firm with high operating cost to preempt.
