Abstract

Taken electronic manufacturing alliances as a sample, the coefficients between members' power structure and power distribution in alliance were examined. The statistic results indict that the similarity between the member firms' power structures will positively affects the level of controlling asymmetry in the alliance. However, this correlation is characterized by non-linearity, that is, with a significant breakpoint in its function curve, thus leaving only higher level of power structure similarity could bring down the level of controlling asymmetry. It is also seen that the power structure of dominating firm itself will effect the controlling power distribution. Besides, it is confirmed that the volatility of Chinese market is one of the most prevalent factors influencing power distribution in alliances.
