Abstract

Confident Leadership is a new paradigm of leadership theories that is proposed recently based on Chinese research of organizational leadership. Confident Leadership could be viewed as leaders conveying confidence, which may have two orientations:confidence in him/herself,and in followers.Connecting the two orientations of Confident Leadership with followers' organizational commitment, the paper also examines the moderating role of firm environment on the relationship between confident leadership and follower commitment. Results obtained from analyses on 95 Chinese companies show that:two orientations of Confident Leadership jointly influence follower commitment; the interactional effect becomes stronger in the environment with intensive competitions. Those results reveal the inside story of leadership in Chinese organizations.
