Abstract Based on the theories such as industrial association, this study explores the impact of digital transformation of chain-owning enterprises on the productivity of upstream and downstream enterprises from the perspective of industry chain relationships, and conduct empirical tests using data of listed companies and upstream and downstream supply chains. The results find that the digital transformation of chain-owning enterprises significantly increase the total factor productivity of upstream and downstream enterprises, indicating that the digital transformation of chain- owning enterprises has a positive spillover effect. Further research shows that the digital transformation of chain-owning enterprises mainly affects the productivity of upstream and downstream enterprises through the synergistic effect, the innovation effect and the effect of promoting the division of labor. Meanwhile, this productivity enhancement effect is more obvious in manufacturing industries and eastern regions.
