This study finds that industry associations connection can significantly improve the ESG performance. And the higher the association intensity, the higher the association level and the connection of the president of the industry association have a more significant effect on the improvement of enterprise ESG performance. Furthermore, the mechanism test shows that industry associations connection improves enterprise ESG performance by reducing the perception of uncertainty, improving management integrity and curbing negative ethical behavior of executives, and this enhancement effect is more significant in non-state owned and non-government affiliated companies, as well as companies with higher media attention and analyst attention.
