Abstract Taking HUAWEI 5G technology as an example, the mechanism of alliance portfolio in the innovation chain of leading enterprises is constructed. This study has the following conclusions: based on the innovation goal of different stages of the innovation chain, the leading enterprise adopts different ways to construct the alliance portfolio with different structures. The construction mechanisms of the alliance portfolio include science and technology diplomat, innovative research plan, directional invitation, and ecological industry cooperation. The structures of the alliance portfolio contain “R&D oriented-decoupling”, “R&D oriented-loose coupling”, “R&D oriented-tight coupling”， and “business oriented-tight coupling”.
