Abstract Taking 584 literature on gig economy from the core database of Web of science and the database of China National Knowledge Network from 2011 to 2021 as samples for quantitative analysis, the publication status, journal distribution, core authors, development contexts and research hotspots of this research field are systematically sorted out. From the collected literature, 117 high-quality literatures are selected to sort out and analyze the main research contents of gig economy. Based on the logic line of “input—process—output”, the motivation and effectiveness of gig economy are sorted out from the macro, platform and individual levels, and their dynamic interaction process is analyzed as platform enterprises, gig practitioners and consumers.
