Impact of State Ownership Participation on Private Enterprises’ Environmental Responsibility |

Abstract This study regards the state ownership in private enterprises as an important political connection mechanism, takes the private listed firms in the high-polluting industries in A-share from 2012 to 2019 as the research object, and empirically examines the impact of state ownership on firm’s fulfilling environmental responsibility. The study found that: ①state ownership can effectively promote firm to fulfill its environmental responsibility. At the same time, state ownership plays a more obvious role than entrepreneurs’ participation in politics in environmental responsibility fulfillment of firm. ②After distinguishing the economic environment of the city where the firm is located, the positive impact of state ownership on environmental responsibility fulfillment of firm in the regions with lower levels of economic development is more significant. In addition, further research found that when considering the policy risks faced by firms, state ownership plays a type of “ballast stone”role in firms, which can effectively weaken the negative impact of policy uncertainty on firms’ fulfilling environmental responsibilities.
