Abstract  According to the imprinting theory, based on the data of 301 technology-based SMEs, this study investigates the relationship between initial resource endowment and SMEs’ available resources as well as the mediating effects of opportunity-seek logic. This study shows that:①initial resource endowment influences SMEs’ available resources. Specifically, scarcity of initial resource expands resource efficiency boundary, while abundance has an inverse-U shaped relationship with resource competence boundary. Initial resource structure consisting largely of absorbed resource expands resource power boundary. ②Opportunity-seeking logic plays mediating roles between initial resource endowments and available resources. Abundant resource has inverse-U shaped relationship with resource competence boundary by industry-spanning search, while resource structure consisting largely of absorbed resource promotes the expansion of resource power boundary by decentralized decision.
