Abstract This study represents the effectiveness of integrating supplier innovation as the supplier’s innovation contribution. The influence mechanisms among strategic fit, preferred customer status, buyer-supplier collaboration, and supplier’s innovation contribution are explored in detail. The structural equation model is used to analyze a sample data from 317 Chinese equipment manufacturing firms. The results are as follows: ①preferred customer status and strategic fit affect supplier’s innovation contribution positively; ②buyer-supplier collaboration plays the full mediating role between strategic fit and supplier innovation contribution but partially mediates the relationship between preferred customer status and supplier’s innovation contribution; ③strategic fit plays an active role in promoting preferred customer status.
