Abstract Taking the network comments triggered by “Ant Financial” event as samples, this study draws on the life cycle theory to divide the comments development stages, uses word cloud and semantic network for text feature visualization and correlation analysis, and investigate the evolution trends and characteristics of the comment topics at each stage based on the LDA model and semantic sentiment analysis, so as to explore the meaning of Internet financial supervision. The research shows that related comment topics have their own focus at different stages, but the overall characteristics are gradually refined and deepened. The topics of “platform monopoly” and “data protection” are the most prominent. The expanded scope of regulatory participants also becomes the main focus. In addition, the emotional tendency of comments in the outbreak and calm stage is most likely to change. To this end, Internet financial supervision should focus on platform anti-monopoly, user data protection, and multi-subject cooperative supervision. At the same time, the guidance of Internet financial public opinion in the outbreak and calm stage should also be focused on.
