Abstract Based on self-concept theory and self-determination theory, this study explored the relationship between perceived non-decent work and job engagement. This study found that when employee perceived non-decent work increases, their self-esteem tends to be affected, which further influences three types of job crafting (i.e., relational crafting, task crafting, cognitive crafting) and job engagement. Specifically, when employee perceived non-decent work decreases their self-esteem, on the one hand, it leads to less relational crafting and job engagement; on the other hand, it leads to more task crafting and cognitive crafting, resulting in more job engagement.
