Abstract This study constructed a mechanism model of how platform leadership and platform openness impacted the exploitative innovation, and did empirical analysis of Internet platform enterprises. It was found that platform leadership positively influenced exploitative innovation. Platform openness played a positive moderating role in the relationship of platform leadership and exploitative innovation.
