Abstract Yuan-fen relationship is the basic and essential link of interpersonal communication. It is also an embodiment and presentation of Chinese cultural traits and characteristics, which permeates all levels and every part of Chinese culture and is implemented everywhere. Therefore, the theory of Yuan-fen relationship can serve as a strong support and an interpretation path for both the theoretical and practical study of Chinese management. Thorough scan and summary of existing research literature show that studies on the concept of Yuan-fen relationship mainly focus on the following aspects: the attributes of Yuan-fen relationship, the development of Yuan-fen relationship, individual interpersonal relationship, collective interpersonal relationship and relation bonds. Based on these findings, the future research could work on these subjects: the development of scaling system determining the connotation of Yuan-fen relationship, cross-cultural comparison of Yuan-fen relationship, the forming mechanism of Yuan for interpersonal relationship, the transformation and overlap of Yuan-fen relationship, the improper utilization of Yuan-fen relationship, and other fields like Yuan-fen-based relationship marketing or brand equity.
