Abstract As one of the most important concepts of Confucianism, introspection plays crucial role during the process of individual self-improvement and growth. However, the conceptual structure of Confucian introspection (CI) has not been discussed for the purpose of operationalization. Employing the process and method of grounded theory, this paper tries to develop the construct of CI based on the data from in-depth interviews with managers, Confucian classical books, and webpages. Results show that CI is mainly composed of three dimensions, namely, problem-oriented CI, person-oriented CI, and heart-oriented CI. These three dimensions are interrelated and complemented with each other. This paper further discusses the theoretical contributions and practical implications of CI.
