Abstract Based on manufacturing quality competitiveness evaluation model which is developed by the Institute of Quality Development Strategy of Wuhan University, this study applies three-stage DEA model to assess the manufacturing quality competitiveness of 30 provincial regions in China and analyze the influencing factors. Results show that the environmental factors have obvious effects on regional manufacturing industry quality competitiveness. The industrial connectivity, proportion of high-tech industry and traffic convenience have significant positive effects, and financial support has a significant negative impact, while enterprise efficiency is not significant. After the removal of the environmental impact factors, the regional manufacturing quality competitiveness has changed significantly, and the regional average efficiency and the pure technical efficiency have increased. The overall environment of China’s manufacturing industry needs to be improved. In view of four kinds of manufacturing industry development type, the study puts forward policy suggestions on improving the quality of regional manufacturing industry in the aspects of improving management level or expanding production scale.
