Analysis of the Classic Environment Models and Their Evolution

Abstract  

This study thoroughly reviews the evolution of environmental model since system theory being introduced into organizational research, from which we summarize major differences across three stages, i.e. theoretical basis, environmental assumptions and different views towards uncertainty. Secondly, this study summarizes a key word from the three stages’ environmental evolution, which is the view towards uncertainty, changing from non-normal uncertainty to normal uncertainty. Lastly, from the change towards environmental perception, the study reviews studies of organization-environment relationship. The study implies managerial practices under a uncertain environment.
