Vertical Transmitting Mechanism of Strategic Management Innovation: A Sensemaking and Sensegiving Perspective

Abstract  From perspective of crosslevel sensemaking and sensegiving within organizations, this study conducts an exploration case study on the management centralization of China Mobile to explore the vertical transmitting of strategic management innovation. The result indicates that: the vertical transmitting process begins with sensemaking activities of top managers to establish an initial innovation framework, and refers to another two subprocesses: the one is from toplevel to middlelevel managers with leading interaction paradigm and the purpose of unifying understanding and improving innovation; the other is from middlelevel managers to firstline employees with restricting unidirectional paradigm and the purpose of unifying actions and implementing innovation. Finally, a vertical transmitting model is set up to guide the practices of topdown crosslevel innovation transmitting.
