Abstract The existing research does not explain how international enterprises to balance the exploration and exploitation. In this paper, based on the enterprise internationalization theory and ambidexterity theory and the productmarket situation decision, we choose two gradual internationalization and two borninternational enterprises considering the productmarket perspective, and explore the patterns of the enterprise to realize the balance of exploration and exploitation. We found that internationalization enterprises have two ways to balance two activities. At the start of the internationalization, different types of enterprises choose the different activities. All companies are to achieve the ambidexterity based on the productmarket dual structure. This study deepens the research of the ambidexterity theory in international business by showing the balance patterns and process of the exploration and exploitation in internationalization enterprises.
