Abstract  This study explores the approaches to leverage capabilities to create value by examining the individual and interactional effect of technological, marketing and management capabilities on firm operational performance. We find that all main individual effects positively impact firm operational performance. However, the interaction of marketing and technological capabilities positively and the interaction of marketing and management capabilities negatively contribute to firm operational performance. We also find that environment uncertainty positively moderates the relationship between marketing capability and firm operational performance and negatively moderates the relationship between technological capability and firm operational performance. The results suggest that it is critical to identify and manage the positive or negative synergic effects of different types of capabilities when integrating them into the capability configurations; marketing capability plays an important role in helping firm to achieve excellent operational performance within high uncertain environment; the firm should treat "capability trap" carefully, such as the trap of technological capability, in particular, in the context of high uncertain environment.
