Abstract The concept of Structure Isolation is defined based on one of the management strategies of New Product Development Project. With scheme diversity, scheme effectiveness and project cost as mediating variables based on the theory of Complexity Fitness Landscape, this study further explores the influence mechanism among Structure Isolation, mediating variables and the success of NPD Project, by establishing a research model and developing related hypothesis. The empirical results show that Structure Isolation improves scheme diversity, scheme effectiveness and the success of NPD Project significantly but project costs, scheme diversity, and scheme effectiveness significantly improves the success of NPD Project respectively, and scheme effectiveness exhibits significant mediating effect in the influence of Structure Isolation on the success of NPD Project.
