A Literature Review of High Performance Work System in Service Industries

Abstract  The conventional research on the High Performance Work System (HPWS) mostly concentrates on the manufacturing industry. The research aiming at the improvement of organizational performance in service industry by the use of HPWS, which is scarcely conducted by domestic scholars, can be regarded as a new field of strategic human resource management. This paper summarizes systematically the research on the content structure, practical effect, mechanism and the prospect of HPWS in service industry and attempts to provide the reference to the study on this area.
