Abstract  This paper firstly discusses what is the Chinese context and contextualization, and how to conduct contextualized Chinese management theory research. Then it proposes the “phenomenondriven” and “theoryinspiring” as two ways of thinking to direct scholars to do contextualized Chinese management theory research and suggests a progressive path for creating Chinese management theory. Finally, the paper discusses the importance of communication between scholars from different backgrounds in order to provoke the thoughts of researchers doing contextualized study and to enrich Chinese management research.
