The Effects of Institutional Change on University knowledge Transfer during the Transition Period: Evidence from the University Mergers in China

Abstract  Based on institutional theory and synergy effect theory , we analyze the effect of university mergers on university knowledge transfer and propose the research hypothesis and use negative binomial regression to test these hypotheses. The results show that: the university knowledge transfer of the postacquisitions is more than preacquisitions; the knowledge base of the acquired university, the relatedness of the acquiring and acquired universities, the relative size between the acquired and acquiring university have different impacts on the knowledge transfer of the postacquisition universities.
